MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) –The family of Darrius Stewart filed a lawsuit against several agencies, claiming wrongful death.Stewart, 19, was shot and killed by Memphis police officer Connor Schilling. A Shelby County Grand Jury said Schilling should not be indicted in Stewart’s death.

Schilling has since resigned from Memphis Police Department.

Stewart’s family filed a $17.1 million wrongful death lawsuit against MPD, the City of Memphis, Connor Schilling, and former MPD Director Toney Armstrong.

“We believe this is the only way to hold the Memphis Police Department accountable,” Murray B. Wells said during Wednesday’s press conference at the Shelby County Courthouse.
